The good, the bad, and the ugly

The good:
It could have been a lot worse. The accident, his injuries, the timing, all of it… could have been a lot worse. But it wasn’t.
The Bad:
Nathan had a bad bike accident 9 days ago. While coming down one of the foothills with his triathlon team, his back tire hit gravel and spun out. It slid him across the road into a guardrail.
The Ugly:
His bike cracked into two pieces. His front tire is bent in half. He has lacerations and road rash all over his left side and in many other places on his body. He has stiches in his chin. He tore some ligaments in his knee, and seemed to have chipped his knee cap. He broke his collar bone into 4 pieces and had surgery 4 days ago to put it back together again because it wasn’t going to heal and might have tried to cut through the skin. He is in a lot of pain, and often seems to be sick from the pain pills that he has to take. For the most part, he hasn’t been able to do much other than sit in a chair, or lie in bed. The kids got sick too. Then my parents, who were helping, had a minor injury. Then my grandparents who were going to help, had an injury.
The Good again:
It could have been a lot worse. A LOT WORSE. He was lucky. But somehow, right now, we are not feeling that lucky.

I am so sorry to hear. If he still has the roadrash, try tegaderm, found at medical supply and maybe other places. Brian hit gravel once, that stuff was great. I hope he feels better soon - not to keep bringing him up, but he’s been there too, and found vicoden very anxiety inducing, so maybe you can get other pain pills. Poor guy, and poor you -hang in there.
